Students for Change requires substantial financial resources to promote its campaign for change. In 2008, our efforts are focusing on two key areas.
In our efforts to bring a new quality to student politics, our organisation is preparing for a major canvassing effort across all nine provinces in July. The success of our work rests upon our ability to spread ideas, engage students in constructive debate and conduct opinion polls in remote parts of the country. Financial assistance received for this project will be used to cover photocopying and stationery costs for this project.
In addition, our work will involve making applications to universities available to underprivileged children as well as assisting families with the difficult task of sourcing financial aid. Students for Change is appealing to corporate sponsors for assistance in this matter. In particular, we are looking for a partner to cover the R 90 non-refundable deposit that is required for applications to UCT.
Students for Change is participating in three major election campaigns in September 2008 at the University of Cape Town. We believe firmly in the need for change in student governance at the most basic, grassroots levels and have thus decided upon a broad based effort to make our politics relevant at both the faculty and residence level, as well as with the SRC.
Therefore, we will be fielding teams of nine candidates in all six Faculty Student Council elections and fourteen House Committees. In addition, fifteen Students for Change candidates will run for the SRC.
We are appealing for any contribution that will assist us with our efforts to engage students in a meaningful debate and spread our message of change to all corners of the student body. The major expenses that will occur during the campaign will centre on photocopying and publicity.
